Looking for new jobs is confusing enough without the added complication of deciding whether it should be temp jobs, contract work or permanent, and whether full-time or part-time work would suit you best.
To make life a little easier, our guide to vacancies and recruitment might help:
Temporary work – temp jobs can be exactly that, temporary work. You might be working half a day or several weeks. Taking a temp job is a great way to experience different working environments and organisations, and a good way to get your foot through the door. However, we would not suggest that you leave a permanent position to take temporary work. When you apply for temporary work vacancies, often you will only need to be interviewed by the recruitment consultant at Ann Pettengell, and not by the client.
Contract work – contract work is a little more secure and usually for a longer period than temporary work. A contract might last 3 months or 3 years, depending on the type of role or organisation. Securing contract work is similar to securing a permanent position. Your recruitment consultant will need to submit your CV to the client, and the client will interview candidates to decide who is the best person for the role.
Temp to Perm – temp jobs to perm (permanent) roles might seem confusing. What it means is that if you join a company on a temporary basis, providing both you and the client are happy, this can lead to the position being offered on a permanent basis.
Permanent – permanent job vacancies are very straightforward. When you are interested in a position, provided your details match the person specification from the client, your recruitment consultant will forward your CV. Candidates will then be invited to interview and it is then all down to you! Depending on the client, you could be interviewed up to 3 times.
Full-time – full-time roles are normally Monday to Friday, but this depends entirely on the client and the role.
Part-time vacancies – part-time jobs can be as little as 1 day a week.
Again, this very much depends on the client and the role. Not all recruitment
agencies deal with part-time vacancies but here at Ann Pettengell we are
keen to help, and we understand the need for a good work/life balance.
